Veterinary Services
HEALTH
Management
Our team has a strong foundation in providing health management services to livestock operations. We provide emergency services to treat and manage sick animals, but also provide a full range of preventative services including protocol development, production consultation and outbreak investigations.
Farm
Visits
Our veterinary team provides timely farm visits, including same day visits for Southern and Central Ontario and regular scheduled visits to Eastern and Northern Ontario.
Telephone
Consultation
Livestock operators need quicker more reliable access to veterinary input, and at Metzger Vet we offer immediate and reliable methods for consultation. We have 24 hours access to veterinarians by phone and can receive photos and videos for greater accessibility.
Processing Services
We have a dedicated cattle processing division at Metzger Vet which allows us to provide a more complete range of services to feedlot and cow-calf operations. We can preform vaccination, implanting, de-worming, weighing and administration of medications as prescribed by veterinarians. We can provide equipment and labour to assist in pregnancy checking, calf processing, and export certification. We have a mobile hydraulic straight chute equipped with weigh scales, a calf chute, two straight chutes and a mechanical straight chute with a tub. We also have an assortment of gates and RFID scanners.
Export Certification
We are equipped and certified to export beef cattle to the US for feeding, breeding or slaughter, as well as to Mexico for breeding. We can provide export services for swine to US and Mexico for feeding and breeding, as well as provide regulatory services for Boar Studs in Ontario. We can also assist in exporting sheep and goats to the US for slaughter.
We are experienced and able to assist in the process of importing cattle from US to be fed in Canada.
Medication and Supply Services
Metzger Veterinary Services offers a complete line of animal health products including vaccines and medications. Our goal is to provide a competitive and reliable pharmacy service. With our fleet of vehicles and drivers we offer same day delivery services to Southern and Central Ontario as well as a frequent scheduled delivery service to Eastern and Northern Ontario. We also offer emergency delivery services. Courier services are available for those more remote operations.
We also provide feed grade medications for those operations mixing their own feed on farm. We can deliver single bags and skid lots.
Our deliveries and pharmacy management are operated with consideration of strict biosecurity and quality control.
Orders can be received by phone, email, or fax.
North East Linwood Veterinary Services
We also provide swine veterinary services to pig farms in Ontario. This service is offered through our second clinic North East Linwood Vet Services. We offer health management and production consultation, complete pharmacy services as well as regulatory services including export and CQA certification.
Dairy Veterinary Services
Metzger Veterinary Services provides a full range of dairy herd health services including traditional veterinary ultrasound, alternative pregnancy diagnosis methods, dairy consulting, data monitoring, protocol development, and ProAction support. We have dairy veterinarians available 24/7 for emergencies, and we are keen to help prevent problems with sound advice and thorough protocol development. Technicians are available to assist with procedures such as dehorning and blood sampling.
BioPRYN Blood Pregnancy Diagnosis
Metzger Veterinary Services offers an in-house blood pregnancy testing option for farmers. The test we run is the BioPRYN Pregnancy Test which is a highly accurate blood test for cattle, sheep and goats. Our in-house lab allows us to return open and pregnant diagnoses to the farm within 24 hours (1 business day). Cows can be tested as early as 28 days bred, and heifers as early as 25 days. Farmers can take their own blood samples with minimal equipment, or our competent technicians can perform the sampling. Samples are picked up by our drivers directly from the farm and are brought back to our lab that day. Blood pregnancy testing is best suited for herds that want an affordable option for more frequent herd healths (since there is no call fee or hourly rate when farmers collect their own samples). This is also a good option for convenient pregnancy diagnosis when there is a short herd health list that doesn’t justify a vet visit but pregnancy confirmation is needed.
Ultrasound Training and Rentals
To make ultrasound equipment more accessible to Ontario farms, we have partnered with Viisona Ultrasound and Education. Through this partnership, we offer bovine ultrasound training and equipment rentals. Equipment can also be purchased directly from Viisona.
Our comprehensive 2-day course includes in-class instruction combined with hands-on training, designed to develop your abilities and confidence in applying ultrasound safely and correctly. We promise a welcoming and friendly environment, ensuring plenty of hands-on practice so you can start herd pregnancy checks with skill and confidence. Ontario-based students who complete the course and purchase or rent a machine also receive follow-up training visits to ensure their success. On-farm ultrasound use leads to better herd health management, flexible scheduling, and improved reproductive outcomes.
Our rental options are available on a weekly, bi-weekly, or as-needed basis. We’ve crafted in-depth training to help those keen to adopt this technology get a great start and a solid foundation.
Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis (CAE) Testing
Metzger Veterinary Services is proud to offer In-House CAE testing for goat herds. Our highly trained technicians will run results weekly in our Linwood lab with our specialized equipment and test kits. This will allow for a quicker turnaround time for results without sacrificing accuracy in your testing. Samples are picked up by our drivers directly from the farm and are brought back to our lab. The test kit that we are using has been externally validated and is currently used by many labs throughout North America with a 100% sensitivity and 99.6% specificity in goats, making it highly reliable for accurate and consistent diagnosis.
