Dr. Ken Metzger
Dr. Ken Metzger grew up on a dairy farm near Elmira and then a hog and beef farm near Lucknow. He graduated from The Ontario Veterinary College in 1987. After two years working for OMAF as a swine veterinarian and another two years on faculty at OVC, he started Metzger Veterinary Services. He has practiced in Linwood for over 30 years. Ken lives in Puslinch with his wife, Sofya, and their son, Nicholas (Koli). Ken also has four adult children. Joey, who works in the financial industry in Las Vegas. Ed, who is a swine and poultry veterinarian and a partner at South West Ontario Veterinary Services. Marty, who is a veterinarian at Metzger Vet . Johnny, who is attending law school at the University of Toronto. Ken enjoys John Deeres, Harley Davidsons, and watching the Montreal Canadiens try to win their 25th Stanley Cup.
Dr. Van Mitchell
Both Dr. Van and his wife, Heidi, were born and raised in the western state of Utah. Most of Van’s growing up years were spent helping his father operate a farm and cow/calf ranch. Van loved his years on the ranch, but chose to pursue a career as a large animal veterinarian. Van attended veterinary school at Mississippi State University. He has been with Metzger Vet since 2010. He and Heidi have five lively children. Van’s main interests outside of vet work include spending time with his family, waterfowl hunting, fishing, and waterskiing.
Dr. Gabriel Jantzi
Dr. Gabriel grew up on a dairy farm near Wellesley and then lived with his family in Ukraine for eight years. In 2009, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Guelph. He graduated from veterinary college at University College Dublin in Ireland in 2013. Gabriel worked as a dairy vet for a year before joining Metzger Veterinary Services in 2014.
Dr. Daniel Pecoskie
Dr. Daniel grew up on a cow-calf operation in Douro, ON, just east of Peterborough, with his parents, three sisters and his border collie, Sam. Daniel completed a degree in Animal Biology at the University of Guelph before graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2019. He now lives in Elora with his partner Alex and their three pets, Oscar, Larry and Archie.
Dr. Jacques van Zyl
Dr. Jacques was born in South Africa and moved to rural Saskatchewan at a young age. He grew up on a farm surrounded by beef cattle and chickens, while attending rodeos every weekend. After moving to Ontario, his family started farming with Bison near Owen Sound. Jacques completed a degree in Wildlife Biology at the University of Western Ontario before graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2020. Outside of work, Jacques’ main interests are hunting (particularly back home in South Africa), fishing, and camping with his wife.
Dr. Andrea Patterson
Dr. Andrea Patterson (Stokes) joined Metzger Vet in February of 2021, after graduating from OVC in 2020. Andrea focuses her veterinary work on the swine sector but has interest in rabbits, chickens, sheep and goats. Outside of work she enjoys riding and competing her horses, Ginger and Clementine, as well as spending time with her husband, Travis, and their two dogs, Bo and Bella.
Dr. Marty Metzger
Dr. Marty is Ken’s third oldest son and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2021. Marty grew up in Linwood, Ontario and has been involved with the clinic for several years. He now lives on a cow-calf farm in Wallenstein with his wife and young family. Marty is eager to work with a variety of livestock species and has a special interest in production animal medicine and new technologies in the agriculture sector. When he isn’t at work, you can find him at home on his farm or camping with his family.
Dr. Liz Teel
Dr. Liz grew up on up farm near Beaverton, Ontario with her parents and twin sister. She participated in 4-H for many years and is now a leader in Waterloo. Liz completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Guelph and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2023. She currently lives in Elmira with her partner Matt, and their dog and cats.
Dr. Rachel Budd
Dr. Rachel Budd (Benschop) graduated from OVC in 2021. She worked in Southwestern Ontario as bovine vet for several years before joining Metzger Vet in 2024. Some of her veterinary interests involve calf health and data driven decision making. Rachel loves spending her free time in her vegetable garden, at the gym, or outside reading a good book. She and her husband live near Woodstock, Ontario.
Dr Kevin Roth
Kevin graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2011. He started and ran his own bovine veterinary practice for 13 years before teaming up with Metzger Vet in 2024. Kevin feels highly privileged to work with many talented & innovative farm operators here in Ontario. He lives in the New Hamburg area with his wife and 2 children.
Dr. Andrew Zwambag
Dr. Andrew Zwambag joined Metzger Vet in 2024. He graduated from OVC in 2011 and worked for Roth Veterinary Services for the past 11 years. He grew up on a cow calf operation in Middlesex County but now operates a broiler chicken farm in the St. Mary’s area. He and his wife Katharine have 5 children, who keep them busy between various summer and winter sports. When he is not busy cheering on his kids from the bleachers, Andrew spends time outside maintaining his yard or enjoying a campfire with friends and family.
Angela Graham
Dr. Angela Graham joined our veterinary team in September of 2024 after working at a mixed animal practice in the Niagara area. Angela graduated from OVC in 2022, and is looking forward to focusing on production animals, including our small ruminant clients. Angela grew up in Waterloo and is excited to be back in the area with her partner Kevin, and their rescue dog Timbit.
Ron Stevenson
Ron grew up on a Beef and hog farm near Walton in Huron County. He joined Metzger Vet in August of 2016, prior to working at the clinic Ron was employed 15 years as an Industry Cattle specialist for a global pharmaceutical company. Ron and his family currently reside on the family farm and operate a cow-calf operation.
Dr. Benjamin Baird
Dr. Benj has enjoyed production agriculture since a young age when he raised sheep and worked at ranches and feedlots. He graduated from Washington State University in 2016 then worked as a mixed animal veterinarian until joining the team at Metzger Veterinary Services in 2022. In his spare time, you will see him involved with his wife and five children in various activities including camping, hiking, hunting, and traveling.
